SAFETY PROSPERITY QUALITY OF LIFE
  • We made it unlawful for sex offenders to move into Deerfield homes near parks, schools, daycare facilities, and other places where children congregate.
  • We established a policy that prohibits doing business with companies that employ illegal aliens or that have violated immigration law.
  • We conducted a comprehensive restructuring of the Fire Department budget and operating structure that conserved over $200,000 and allowed us to postpone a 2006 levy request and saved taxpayers $1.2 million.
  • We negotiated a collaborative agreement with Mason to improve fire service in our northwest quadrant that could save us over $1 million and significantly reduce response times for both departments.
  • We reviewed our crisis response plan and participated in several emergency drills.  We continue to practice and improve our plans.
  • We doubled our financial support of the Warren County Drug Task Force which has resulted in numerous arrests and convictions of serious drug offenders and taken an enormous amount of illegal drugs off our streets.
  • With the help of the Warren County Sheriff, we added personnell to our Sheriff's detachment for improved management and better crime reduction/prevention.
  • Assisted Warren County with implementing Enhanced 911 wireless phone emergency response.
  • Served on Warren County Jail Task Force, identifying an innovative and comprehensive plan to deal with overcrowding in our Criminal Justice System.

  • Since 2006, we have restructured, reorganized and re-prioritized the Township budget, stretching every last dollar of tax money BEFORE asking for a single extra dollar of additional taxes.
  • We completed a thorough audit of our fiscal activity through 2007 and made significant changes to our accounting processes that will enhance control and efficiency.
  • We enacted new ethics policies to to ensure ethical conduct and the avoidance of real or perceived conflicts of interest for employees and elected officers of the Township.
  • We temporarily halted annexation of several hundred acres of land worth $3.4 million in annual taxes, retaining the tax base and control of its current and future development.
  • We obtained a Aa3 credit rating from Moody's (a great rating) to improve our access to capital and lower future cost of borrowing.
  • We restructured the Township budget and debt service which will save more than $800,000 in finance costs.
  • We re-negotiated our local cable access & broadcasting deal, saving $85,000 per year.
  • We enacted new equipment and travel policies to ensure accountability and efficiency.
  • We did a very thorough review of the Fields Ertel Corridor and enacted a business redevelopment district with stronger zoning and building rules and more controls that improve our chances of developing a solid commercial sector.
  • Completed the first-ever Deerfield comprehensive plan that will result in a major revision of our zoning code.  This is the plan that will guide development and re-development of Deerfield for the next 20 years.
  • We joined Cincinnati USA Partnership for Economic Development, a regional business consortium, to stimulate economic growth in Deerfield.
  • We are working to improve our relationship with Mason City Council.  Our goal is to forge a healthier, long-term relationship that enhances our economies and improves services.
  • We are working with Warren County to fund the realignment of Irwin Simpson Road near Wilkens, which should begin this year.
  • We continue to work hard with Warren County to improve the Fields Ertel I-71 exit.  Some preliminary studies show a fix is possible and within the reach of local funding.
  • We've improve monthly meetings, eliminated some of the public rancor, and enhancing our iimage.
  • We negotiated a deal with Xavier University to begin offering its award winning MBA program in the Township in 2007.
  • We finished construction of Wilkens Blvd, improving north-south traffic in the commercial corridor.
  • Primary and secondary roads have been re-surfaced throughout the Township.
  • The Montgomery Road widening project is underway.  To improve the look of the road, we contributed additional money to ODOT for beautification projects and used $200K of local taxes to get over $1 million worth of sidewalk along Montgomery Road (both sides of the street from Fields Ertel to the Little Miami bridge).
  • We coordinated the funding of Deerfield Regional Stormwater District to meet federal and state stormwater mandates while reducing the planned cost by over half.
  • We've made significant improvements to our parks.
  • We purchased 110 acres of land including the Kingswood Golf Course, primarily  to avoid annexation by Mason, but  it will also help improve parks and roadway plans and make a substantial economic impact.
  • We finished almost $1 million worth of improvements to Cottell Park.
  • We purchased 40 acres of mostly pristine parkland in Loveland Park along the Little Miami River at well below market value prices.
  • We invested $2 million to build Fleckenstein Park

  • We've held four neighborhood consortium meetings, sharing information and building contacts throughout the Township.
  • Based on input from residents, we expanded the Township Recycling Program, substantially increasing the volume and types of items that can be recycled.
